.@o_guest I prefer Matlab's syntax to Python/R, feels more intuitive to me. Octave is an option (open-source w/ Matlab-like syntax)
Also not meaning to repeat @DRMacIver but C = poops despite being immortal – taking long time to die isn't a good thing.

You reiterating that C & Fortran are still alive, convinces anybody reading even more about how limited Matlab is IMHO.

I do think it's OK for people to like older languages FWIW. C has special problems but is sometimes still fine.
-
me too. I mainly have a problem with those who love Matlab and closed source and worship them above others.
-
In science you get those who sadly barely know how to code. They only know how to code in Matlab, and badly.

Breaks my heart.

I've been learning some Python, but I honestly do prefer Matlab syntax; that said, am biased at this point
-
yeah but I assume you don't have a compsci degree (?) so your bias is very deeply biased (meta biased?) haha
-
no CS degree, just a general 'aptitude' for programming rather than formal training
-
I don't wanna sound like a snob but I am I guess: I find it hard to think Matlab = programming given the IDE.

Sometimes the incentives to change aren't great enough to outweigh the advantages of staying in a comfy niche.
-
I think the price of Matlab, closed source, & the fact they don't update broken stuff will eventually "work".

I was referring to this by the way no idea if a more deatiled version is available? https://www.software.ac.uk/blog/2016-09-12-quick-and-dirty-analysis-software-being-used-research-python-matlab-and-r …
