in my opinion a person who didn't make it to the end of their PhD can't be the ideal person for giving motivation/advice.

I am speaking of the whole of Piled Higher and Deeper and the author himself. Other have mentioned this all before me, so
I can't take credit but I feel very uncomfortable with the "industry" around demotivational PhD websites/comics/etc.
I do think it's important to acknowledge not all phds are destined to stay. Some can't wait to get out the door, so can be comfort
don't disagree they need support but support imho is not appropriate coming from somebody who dropped out as I'm assuming
we want them to have role models that are in line with successful completion!
