I've had most students be part of multiple pairs. They soon realised it's a valuable give and take.
is this phd students? In psych & neuro I *always* see implosions... So what's the trick? 
That was PhD students. I think the trick was pairing different years - they had different pressures.

I also have to admit that >80% of my PhD students had both exceptional technical and social skills.
I was actually referring to MSc students
so they're on the same page and it's a shorter period
I have had very bad experiences being an MSc student. They are as competitive as PhDs. So good
that you can get them to cooperate!
