I understand too - but maybe make all features free to academics? Like github allows us unlimited private repos...
either way this is why I don't use it as much as @overleaf although I like the UI more

one thing for me is that I think it would be better to have a much lighter GUI - so I guess custom colours?

you can change the editor colour scheme by clicking on the gear icon in the top right of the editor. Does this help?

I love that feature, but I mean the GUI itself. I dunno if I'm sensitive because migraines but I prefer lighter controls.

aha right, ok, that makes sense -- we'll see if we can add a setting to toggle the editor toolbar etc colours.
