"He’ll be taking...introduction to computing with MATLAB"
Take that @neuromusic!

also in all seriousness what a terrible idea to send a child to uni - never ends well

"His parents expect him to go on to get a doctorate and have a career in academia, teaching and doing research."
@neuromusic -
sometimes it's not about what parents expect/want... sometimes it's about having a childhood.
-
If you look at the kids who have had this done to them (it's not informed consent) the do not end up "special".
-
I've known a few kids like that. what do you do with a kid who is bored with everything bc it is easy?
-
the challenge is despite his intelligence this kid is still emotionally and physically 12yo
-
of course, and A CHILD! 12 == child. They do not actually know what they are doing.
-
at that age I could've skipped some grades but fam wouldn't let me. In retrospect, wise
-
I was already young for grade and different levels of maturity make huge dif in social life
