nah, I just use bibtex.

do any of those even work on Linux? I tried mendeley years ago on Linux and it was so annoying.

I didn't like using Mendeley either. Can't you also use Bibtex's search function? I use Sente for Mac, but it's now abandonware.

bibtex is not a search engine/reference manager it's a database/language for keeping references. You have to put them in.

don't you use
@zotero?? You don't have to do more than just click on the icon when you are on the website of the paper -
that's the same as the Google scholar button

@zotero also works for not papers (videos, podcasts, ...) -
I'll try it. G knows way more incriminating things than what I reference.
