I hate Matlab. I'm being provocative.
But Matlab is terrible.
If you can, please switch and please stop teaching students Matlab.

@jtth it's like saying you prefer computers that usesbase10 instead of 2 and then nothing works cos all maths is binary for a reason eg CRC -
@o_guest ? I get the arguments for why it’s useful in some languages, but there is no 0th ordinal number. -
@jtth in computer science there is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/0th -
@o_guest that’s just a norm though; better arguments here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zero-based_numbering …. Both useful. -
@jtth sorry but I have to disagree categorically on teaching people something maladaptive like that. Just because I can cope or you can cope -
@o_guest I’m not making claims about what’s better to teach with (I still think folks should learn scheme first then transition to python) -
@jtth haha I did scheme first too - purple/wizard book? -
@o_guest ours was based loosely on that, but was all from the makers of http://www.scheme.com/ - 21 more replies

@o_guest I use R mostly. It’s not difficult to transition between them; I’ve written fortran/mathematica and python/r. More of the latter. -
@jtth I wrote all of my phd in C, even the graphics/graphs from scratch. It's not the best idea to do what I did though. -
@o_guest that sounds… intense and scary. props!
