We don't reward girls socially for spending hours coding and building something. Also, the support system is weak among girls. If I get stuck with something I often find few guys willing to help. If a guy needs help, there are dozen to helpAlso, non westerners are more sexist..

Agree 100% - this is so important. I’ve also noticed that when I do strive for more inclusive cultures at work, some of my male technical colleagues send me articles like the one below and say “see - I told you”

This is the least rational and logical essay I've read in a long time. I'd give it a mark of 58 for the logical circulatory, lack of historical knowledge, sloppy writing, and equating things that can't be equated

The interview is in Italian but I can sum up some points from it: 1) main barriers are the long hours culture and crunch time phases. Also the perception of a male dominated sector doesn't help.

Some of the interviewed women were the only ones in their team or field (be it programming or e.g.: sound engineering). This could be challenging, something to worry about, or even fascinating according to them.

2) Some of them didn't like to be classified on a gender basis and didn't bother. Some other said they would give up a career in game development should they had to be the only female member of the team. (the broader Liv Univ project was called "Breaking Barriers").

According to the researcher women are more likely to be assigned a role outside of the active game development, e.g.: marketing, PR, etc. She added that games are an important media in modern society and women should be part of their creation.

3) non-conventional work environments like game development offer less chances of a career to women because career paths do not follow rigid & clear steps one can stick to, also, the unbalanced wage system makes it harder to avoid gender gap (or other gaps FWIW).
