It's interesting how folk etymology of words can affect people when they make some arguments sometimes, but not others. You certainly hear "racism goes both ways" but you less often hear "that's reverse homophobia" [although you do get the straights wanting their own pride LMAO].

Have a great Sunday! And feel free to comment below with gems like "white history month", or "the gender pay gap isn't real", or "Olivia is a massive sexist cos she defines sexism the normal way as a bias towards androcentricity as opposed to a bias towards trolling her"...

Sexism = all sexes Racism = all races Homophobia = homosexual (or non-hetero), not all sexualities Islamophobia = Islam, not all religions Transphobia = transgender, not all genders The latter three are directional and the first two are general which doesn't make them comparable
-
We disagree. The history of these terms doesn't conform to your interpretation.https://finallyfeminism101.wordpress.com/2007/10/19/feminism-friday-the-origins-of-the-word-sexism/ …
-
And to be clear, not just the history but current use too.
-
As do respected dictionaries, like the OED:https://www.lexico.com/en/definition/sexism …
-
Yes, it says "typically", not exclusively. Which is objectively true. My core belief is that the moment your idea of equality involves shitting all over cishet white men for being born that way, is also the moment that you're no longer striving for equality.
-
Some leaps and bounds here about my ideology. But I'll leave this thread since I think you're not interested in my actual views and ideas. Have a nice Sunday.
-
I'll clarify tho: "by leave this thread" I mean I think you're going off on a tangent here that is baseless since if I was so unpleasant and anti-men in a irrational way I'd have trouble interacting with all my coworkers and friends. I want to stay civil/give you time to think.
-
I love when I see feminists use arguments that they themselves would laugh at if other people used them in an equivalent manner. "I have a black friend, so how can I be racist?" I don't know you or whether you're anti-men, I just find the argument humorous.

This exchange seemed relevant to the point: https://twitter.com/IrisVanRooij/status/1149737222989463552?s=20 … Part of problem is people's shallow thinking about the meaning and use of terms, of course in ways conveniently upholding status quo.
-
Shallow reading too — it's a common thing online: nobody is bothered to read anything before hitting send. Because feminism on a deep level isn't just "I believe that women face sexism" it's also understanding exactly what and why — the mechanisms.
-
Agreed. The 'reverse sexism/racism' take is just so simplistic & derailing. Do it once or twice, I can assume an honest misunderstanding. But upholding this view after being explained its problems, I cannot assume good faith anymore. Minimally, I'd expect people seek education.

The wage is a form of blackmail from the employee to the employer. "If you don't pay me I don't work". How fair is that?

Don't give them ideas!

Totally agree with your point, but aren't the last three different because they refer to specific sides of a spectrum? So would it be more like sexuality...phobia/straight people, religiophobia/Christians, and genderphobia/cis people? All of which would be ridiculous.
-
I thought I'd mention it because I could just imagine how this tweet might hit the ear wrong to people I know who disagree with this idea.
-
Also thanks for all the stuff you tweet on this.

OK I sort of see the point but we can have Christophobia as opposed to Islamophobia we can have heterophobia, if we ever need the term, as an alternative to homophobia. Linguistically, the analogy seems less than perfect.
