How does a male prof who believes that #bropenscience is a “sexist slur” explain to himself that many of his male colleagues responding to him are not offended? He does not seem to have moved an inch on his untenable position, despite serious engagement for more than 5 days.

Wouldn't it be great if all that energy now going into battling a useful word like #bropenscience, could be channeled to actually battling actual sexism.pic.twitter.com/5nlkPxy03k

But no. Even while fencing off multiple academics arguing with him in his mentions, the same white male prof still had some energy left over to quote tweet a black PhD student and call her "racist" for calling out a white woman on her privileged take.pic.twitter.com/3BqCgBQYgM

Again, if only this energy could be used for something better. E.g., to process the information provided by his colleagues explaining to him that his understanding of "racism" isn't any better than his understanding of "sexism", incl. useful pointers to the relevant literature.

I can’t wait to hit that stage of graybeard where I speak well outside my area of expertise & ignore evidence that counters my assumptions because my word as a mediocre professor should be sufficient. Apparently, that’s what us white male scientists are supposed to do.

Bad thing is that this should in fact be within his area of expertise (more than for the rest of us, at least), seeing that he is a social psychologist studying stereotypes.

Great. There’s even more of them out today? (I’m talking about a certain geologist from Florida).

The attitude of this particular white male prof is not a one-off. Here another (blatant, mouth dropping) example: https://twitter.com/Abebab/status/1151871763770462208?s=20 …

Oh. I didn’t realize Lee was a social psychologist who studied stereotypes. That’s bad.
