I am someone working to try to bring open data ideals to educational/developmental psychology, via a data repository @schotz and I are building. We simply cannot approach the minds we are trying to change the way some do in the #openscience movement.https://twitter.com/lingtax/status/1148724312506920961 …

I don't often align to or claim the
#openscience title. Most in the movement likely have no idea about what we are doing. We have to work with people from where they are. And outside of twitter most are not even close to there.2 replies 1 retweet 10 likesShow this thread -

It’s been fascinating to me to hear the arguments and fears against it from established folks — yet the students, when I explain it, they ask “wait, it’s NOT like this??”

I wonder if there are literally cohort differences, or these students will become like the established folks when they are themselves established. Collecting our data is hard. It makes people not want to just give it away.

I’ve been thinking about it as “levels” of openness. Trying to stop the baby in the bath water problem of “well I can’t share my data so guess I can’t be an open science person”

We need a paper that says this to our people. I'm hoping to get
@WillavanDijk working on a paper saying as much to LD community.3 replies 0 retweets 7 likes -
This is very dear to me, too. Most outside lang/dev for example don't know graded options like those offered by
@databrary or@MPI_NL's Language Archive and assume it's a choice between open or nothing. Good documentation, meta-data and secondary data do increase transparency1 reply 0 retweets 5 likes -

Trying to stress this whenever I get a chance (and thanks to folks letting me do this), but a formal paper sounds like a really good idea. Cheering you on from over here.

IMHO your open science buffet idea is perfect for this, Christina.
