With the analogy of “dictators delivering a speech to an audience rolling on the floor laughing” I tried to say that hadn't they been taken seriously, even considered, they would have never become dictators.

Replying to @twitemp1 @BedabrataChoud1 and
Once dictators are invested with power, this technique would probably not work, although to my knowledge it has yet to be tested.

Got you. I think the metaphor is too confusing for me because I think we're past the point where laughing at them will help.

Unfortunately, I think you may be quite right.

To be clear, I don't think these people are dictators. I think they are just powerful names in a (sub)field of shit.

Just a useful analogy with a hit of "wannabe but I just a sub/sub"

I think analogies that involve human suffering esp. on a social level are really tricky. Everybody reads into them dramatically different things.

Analogies are meant to help understanding. O/c, they can also obscure it by adding parallel meanings that people can use to divert the point and mislead the reader. I cannot control what others interpret. There would always be ppl who try to understand and those who cherry-pick.

Anyway the real misguided analogy here was the comparing publication bias to women and gay rights...
