It even has dialogue. And yes, it's amazing. Please just read it: https://www.maa.org/external_archive/devlin/LockhartsLament.pdf … A Mathematician’s Lament by Paul Lockhartpic.twitter.com/eWSfubJoU3

Also, I just added a link to it from my blog, as obviously it's extremely relevant to the types of arguments needed to be made to understand we need to teach people to code too and has been an inspiration for me for a decade plus:http://neuroplausible.com/programming

I reread this piece every few years, and it's great. Over time, I find myself disagreeing with parts of it, just a little. But on the whole I think it makes excellent points. I struggled with maths/stats in school, and only latter got it to appreciate it.

Yeah, it's not and nothing is gospel. Agreed.

I love this, but, I think the analogy with music and art is too idealistic. At some point I feel like one needs to learn something like a language in any domain to progress. Though one need not do this simply to appreciate the domain. Anyway, thanks for sharing!
-
Yeah, it's not obviously exactly what I think. But I love it too.
-
Yeah I only say this because I once worked at a music school where we didn’t teach kids the basics. It was a disaster, but also I’m bad at teaching kids music
