#BropenScience is a serious thing. Open Science is mostly a white, straight, male area. It can be really aggressive, it can be really gatekeepery. But the goal of Open Research is so good, so we all need to help work on this.https://twitter.com/o_guest/status/1144318502175682560 …

I agree that it’s vital to call out bad behaviour where it happens, but tbh the idea that open science is mostly straight men is kind of offensive and erases important contributions to the community by many (often junior) women & queer people.

Okay, but I'm a woman and Queer person working in Open Research. The history of the field does come from those people, many of the loud voices are those people. I'm saying we need to amplify women, POC & Queer folx, not that they don't exist.

And as those things I've often had to deal with White, Straight, Men shouting me down when I suggest different approaches. This tweet literally comes from my experience (Biology, Comp Sci, Libraries).

while not explicitly an open science podcast, this is a place I go for open science-related content in psychology. I tend to think of them as "faces" of open science in psych. Sorry there aren't similarly diverse voices in other areas

Do we really think I'm erasing myself (and others) as a queer Middle Eastern person when I talk about what I notice about open science? Because this is such a weird argument. I'm at the intersection of a very different part of psychology and open science, very far for social.

If social psych's form of open science is incredibly diverse that's amazing & will probably serve as a prototype for others to emulate. How fantastic. What do you think is the secret here? Just field differences?

I don't even know other women modellers in London around my career stage anymore they all leave for industry. Open science and computational cognitive modelling... Just isn't like social psych.
