The biggest barrier to #openscience to me is the way it re-centers White men as the police of social inquiry. Every time methods and measures trickle down to the masses and starts providing a route to social change, it’s suddenly inadequate.https://twitter.com/o_guest/status/1144318502175682560 …

I learned your doctrine - not enough. Learned your methods - not enough. Learned your statistics - not enough.

Now I need to go through your institutions, your data hubs, your prying eyes so that you can find a reason - any reason - to invalidate my work of it doesn’t fit what you think is right? I’m good on that.

Social inquiry is inherently time-senisitive and contextual. It’s not physics. Social psychology is not immune to the changing world. That means our understanding of good science must be divorced from strict replicability.

I seek to understand the human condition as a dynamic and hyper-variable conception, not a static system of cause and effect. This means what I do and what I say is based not just on sound methods, but on history, on politics, on perspective.

I get the idea behind open science, I really do. We shouldn’t overstate our conclusions or oversimplify our results. But that truth gives us the chance to expand scientific inquiry, and instead we are packing it into an even tighter box.

And with that box, with that hyper-standarization, is the loss of so many people who could shock our basic epistemologies.

I will continue learning from true experts - the people who face the brunt of ‘intergroup perception’ and ‘biased judgment’ everyday. Not the ones who pre-registered their fetishistic objectification of groups they don’t belong to and will never truly know.
