I'm gonna do a small thread on: Why did I coin #bropenscience?
The shortest answer to the question is: because it’s amusing and seems to upset exactly the right people, while also drawing attention to behaviours and ideas that harm #openscience and its adoption in deep ways.

I appreciate you doing this. Howsver, open science is a contested term and I personally would favor a more narrow definition there focused on the validity of research outcomes by opening research practices.
-
I fully understand the reasoning behind your tweet. But I would argue there is also also a case not to entangle one just cause with another cause even though both are worth pursuing.
-
I would argue that keeping my narrow definition of OS and your societal concerns distinct helps for conceptual clarity.
-
I think coexisting differing definitions is fine.
-
But it's not fine to think open science is only about replicating because that's just historically and actually inaccurate.

I know I've said it before - but I'd want my science to be Inclusive Science rather than (just) Open Science.
-
I feel like for every 2 steps forward towards Inclusive Science, as a community we take 1 step back. Kindness, self-awareness and empathy are much needed.

It’s not about “who.” It’s about “what.” Where “what” = long-established standards of evidence and logic, both of which are violated by the very concept of bropenscience. If scientific claims were anonymous your argument would have no basis. It’d be void.

Equity? Can you elaborate on that term, please? In some contexts that means things that are vastly different from its almost-homophonic counterpart, equality.
