In light of many tweets. I propose this poll. Please share far and wide and let's find out what our academic friends think of this issue. Would be great to see the reason for your response as well. Should we abandon the use of 'Dr'?

1) I strongly suggest we should abandon it. I don't think it's helpful and may even be harmful. No one has given me a good reason for keeping it. Most reasons are 'because we worked hard'. Which of course every profession does...

2) Or many women prefer using Dr as a gender-neutral title. This I totally get, but what about women who haven't completed a Ph.D.? I am open to change my but at the moment I can't see any reason to use a title which suggest so much self-importance.

I’d vote to get rid of it if we also got rid of *all* other titles, but not if the alternative is Mr and Mrs/Ms/Miss.
