Hey Twitter friends!
I want to buy a laptop that's worth the money I will pay and runs Unix, specifically Ubuntu/Mint preferably (don't care about Windows at all) — what's a solid and cute machine in your opinions?

I recommend Dell Developer edition laptops. I have the 15 inch and I've pretty much had zero issues installing new versions of Ubuntu (17.10 now). The 13inch version looks really nice IMO.

I used to get Dell (XPS M1210 was my last) and constantly had parts failing and needing a tech to replace. The laptop used to be really solid and felt kind of cheap over the years.

In graduate school I started getting the Lenovo Thinkpad T42* series with extra memory and wiping Windows from the getgo, and I’ve never looked back! Thinkpads are amazing - I’ve never and issues, and they survive heavy treadmill use and being thrown in backpacks on a bike.

Well that depends on you! Mine is adorable and tough as balls.
I certainly don’t need a wafery laptop that couldn’t stand the test of my abuse working on machines. :)pic.twitter.com/vfa7mmHoKz

Yes, it about personal preference. Glad you have one you like and works for you.
