Since I created the term bropen science, I've been pleasantly surprised and honored that people find it useful. I always find labelling broblems allows us to tackle them. I'm glad #bropenscience allows discussions like this to be had on @ReproducibiliT with @priyasilverst. 😊https://twitter.com/ReproducibiliT/status/1133391053359374336 …

I'd just like to add though, underlining a point @priyasilverst herself made in the @ReproducibiliT podcast, that the burden of all this should not be on the more marginalised people.

It often seems the most underrepresented people are those who do (and are actively asked to do) the bulk of the work on inclusivity and diversity. And it's not that we/they don't want to do it, but that it's relatively unrewarded and it takes away from discussing our other work.

On a few occasions I have said "no" to giving talks on inclusivity and diversity because I felt 1) they asked me because I am an LGBT woman from the ME in science & not because it's my expertise (and there are experts here who can explain stuff better than me for sure),

      2) it's unlikely this will help me in any meaningful way (promotion, etc.) and might even harm me, & 4) it's not something I want to think about so deeply because it's painful. I have though said "yes" as well when I felt the request was genuine, from a community I trust.

Anyway, glad this is becoming something people discuss. Even a silly pun like bropen science can help talk about stuff. Because "open" means nothing is it's not open to everybody and other open movements have failed:https://www.wired.com/2017/06/diversity-open-source-even-worse-tech-overall/ …
