Yeah, this insistence on controlling files (rather than linking to preprints that are already externally available) is gross and one of the reasons I stopped using it.

Also the notifications that don't contain actual info but require you to go to the website to get what they could have just sent it the email

I think I read that journals went after them for having articles up there. I suspect google scholar doesn’t have an api for this reason too. Journals are forcing us to use their shit
