The embarrassing mess we are in is due to the 1974 invasion of Cyprus by the Turkish Army, who hold 34% per cent of the island and refuse to let it go. Maybe we should be addressing our concerns and coercions to Turkey, if they would accept such a thing? CYPRUS IS THE VICTIMhttps://twitter.com/o_guest/status/1134384823152316416 …

We did a bunch of ethnic cleansing on Turkish Cypriots. Get serious.

I agree with you that the inter communal violence was an absolutely shameful thing. The invasion also attempted to ethnically cleanse the North....so it’s not like they’re blameless victims.

Who is "they"? And Turkey signed a treaty that said it has the right and duty to protect T/Cs and we started ethnically cleansing them. The first invasion/peace operation/whatever you want to call it, was totally justified.

The Turkish army. Yes the first invasion was but as soon as the constitution was restored they should’ve left - that was the whole point of the guarantor system. They then decided to ethnically cleanse the north of the island and kill almost all Greeks and others in their path.

I’m not saying that we are blameless but to lie the blame for Cyprus solely on the hands of the Greeks is disingenuous at best. The Turkish invasion and occupation is ILLEGAL. They actually DID ethnically cleanse the north of our island from all of its Greeks.

Greeks? I never said Greece did any ethnic cleansing although all NATO troops (Greece and Turkey) pretty much killed Cypriots (non-NATO country) because they knew each other from joint ops.

Same with the UN, they allowed many Cypriots to be killed because they didn't understand the conflict parameters.
