As a person who is technically both a Cypriot and a *London* Cypriot now (you should hear how I say [μ]πάνιο now!) I am ofc obsessed with meeting Cypriots.
Even in Cyprus last week I had to inhibit asking people “Oh, you’re Cypriot? Me too!” because of course they were!

I also accidentally have said palooni instead of baloni.

It's obviously interference from balloon. The time I said palooni, I laughed and I said (mainly to myself) "Oh, it's baloni... so what's 'ball' in Greek? Oh! Riiiight."

Yeah I imagined, hence the heritage speakers. Not very into the literature of heritage Cypriot Greek (although I know there's research going on) but as a linguist and a speaker I loved the comment!

See examples like this (also because it's hilarious):https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zy4JsspuzSk …
