THIS. Sure some aspects of #OpenScience can help with the current reproducibility / replication / confidence crisis, but #OpenScience has its own goals and intrinsic values.https://twitter.com/o_guest/status/1068791012481470464 …

Many people seem to think that #OpenScience & the reproducibility crisis in psychology are somehow causally related. They are not. Open science is decades old & did not focus on reproducibility as a single issue — more here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Open_science#History … & here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Open_science_data#History … pic.twitter.com/qF5yPTqNqu

Thank you, Remi. It's so weird to see people write preprints about this topic and confuse the two... I don't want to name and shame, but it's just disappointing. Do some research?

In all fairness I am often responsible for not making that distinction clear enough because I assume people are aware of it.

Big difference though to what I have seen! I've never seen you say literally: Open science was created because scientists were making bad science in 2010. It's like "NO". Open science is way older.

Also I am not like some super old person who has been around for decades, but I *was* in London, at UCL, in the 2010s (and even a little before) and I know what happened and who started what. People more junior than me or others who were not there need to be careful because

twisting the facts and making things opaque with misinformation is serious and literally AGAINST being open!

I am not some all-knowing oracle type, I definitely don't know everything that happened and that's the point. Nobody is. Everybody can add their own correction so to speak and increase our understanding of events/science.

But talking about stuff without being an expert in them is... well... anti-science?

BTW I have this idea people, on Twitter, think I'm a lot younger than I am. Especially those who disagree with me. I find it really strange. They say things like that I finished my PhD like 1-2 years ago or something. It's nice. I guess I know how to moisturise my skin. 😎

And more than a few think I'm doing a PhD now. That would actually be nice TBH. Imagine if I had waited 10 years to do my PhD. It would have been such a nice ride. I'm so much more mature now. INB4: You're still pretty immature. 💅

Ha reminds of a similar thing. I am old enough to remember the arrival of the PLOS journals and how quite a few people said that their idealism would be their doom. Replication issues were not even a thing at the time. Well except for those who had read Meehl and similar stuff..

When I was a student in my second year I was told by one of the TA : "You should have a look at this new thing to search articles. It is called pubmeb. It is great." #NotKidding #TheThingsWeTakeForGranted

Remi, I know maybe it's just me... but... why don't you like being old? Maybe it's a woman thing? The longer I live the more people listen to me and take me seriously, I LOVE IT!
