What's the weirdest insult you've ever received? I was once called "organised" as a means of implying my achievements were due to conformism rather than some notion of "muddled genius" the other person was privileging and seeking to claim for themselves

I've been told that I publish a lot with other authors and they think that fails to show that I can lead and be independent. I think it shows "I play well with others"

Absolutely ^ academia could do with a hell of a lot more people who *play well* with others imho - particularly in the sciences..a domain that requires collaborative skills more than ever, these skills are often sorely lacking

This is one of those criticisms that smacks of BS. If you had many first author ones they'd think of a bad thing to do with that...

Oh god yes! My friend was told it was awesome that she had a 4* top-notch science paper but then was told that it was easy for her because she used archived data... in actuality, that does not diminish her work... in fact, it means she's a wizard at big data and stats!!

So, if someone wants to find a way to bring you down, they will? All eventualities lead to a negative. It's very easy to do - in fact, there is no instance that results in a positive where the person in power wants it to be otherwise..
