I can't relate to doing things out of spite. I can recall many men from CompSci BSc saying things like I am "too stupid" & could never do an MSc, disbelieving I got accepted to do one at UCL, etc. The irony is they are just as successful academically/generally if not more.https://twitter.com/amandadeibert/status/1119200242908434433 …

I guess welcome to the real world. These is no justice. The universe doesn't care. Karma is not real. Things don't improve unless we change systems.

Two of the people who called me "stupid" (and whom I remember names, so I could check just now) are extremely successful: awards, multi-millionaire parents, investment banking jobs, etc. So living your life this way, as the tweet I'm replying to invites, is UNHEALTHY AF. Don't.

While I agree with what you're saying and your method is healthier. I've always been interested in science, but over a lifetime of education I have been told "you will never be able to accomplish (insert anything)" I ended up have to fight for the opportunity to learn...pic.twitter.com/sd9CuggZ6h

I've been fighting all my life. During my PhD I was in a very bad situation and still made it out alive (literally — won't say anything too upsetting here but hopefully you can understand), thankfully.

I also come from a culture that doesn't respect me however many degrees I get. Women just don't get this respect ever.
So yes, I get you and yes, all minorities in science are fighters.1 reply 0 retweets 2 likes -

I am sorry you had to experience anything terrible. Simultaneously it is my terrible experiences that make me speak out, and more understanding towards those going through them (past/ present/ future). This is one thing I seek to at least ameliorate through daily interactions.pic.twitter.com/WCxaieiGpS
