I can't relate to doing things out of spite. I can recall many men from CompSci BSc saying things like I am "too stupid" & could never do an MSc, disbelieving I got accepted to do one at UCL, etc. The irony is they are just as successful academically/generally if not more.https://twitter.com/amandadeibert/status/1119200242908434433 …

While I agree with what you're saying and your method is healthier. I've always been interested in science, but over a lifetime of education I have been told "you will never be able to accomplish (insert anything)" I ended up have to fight for the opportunity to learn...pic.twitter.com/sd9CuggZ6h

I've been fighting all my life. During my PhD I was in a very bad situation and still made it out alive (literally — won't say anything too upsetting here but hopefully you can understand), thankfully.
-
I also come from a culture that doesn't respect me however many degrees I get. Women just don't get this respect ever.
So yes, I get you and yes, all minorities in science are fighters. -
I am sorry you had to experience anything terrible. Simultaneously it is my terrible experiences that make me speak out, and more understanding towards those going through them (past/ present/ future). This is one thing I seek to at least ameliorate through daily interactions.pic.twitter.com/WCxaieiGpS

Argh, that's horrible - sorry. But I totally agree with you and, at times, I feel like I am doing a phd to prove people who continually intentionally or unintentionally think very little of me wrong.
-
I worry if you feel like that because sadly there are people who will never accept you/us no matter how many degrees we get.

-
You two are among the most intelligent people I follow on Twitter; it both saddens and engages me to hear that there are people out there who would say that you're "too stupid" to be doing what you are doing. You don't need to "prove" them wrong, imo; they already are wrong.
-
Ah, that's so sweet. But yeah, I don't need to prove them wrong for many reasons including that "stupid" isn't really something real.
