Talking with @raynamharris and @ReiterTaylor about exploratory data analysis, p-hacking http://www.stat.columbia.edu/~gelman/research/unpublished/p_hacking.pdf …, the garden of forking paths, and preregistration https://cos.io/prereg/ . I know from following @o_guest that there are serious concerns about prereg - any refs??

I'm sure I have left stuff out! But hopefully those tagged can help out even more.

Also I should have tagged

Thanks Brad! Been a bit quiet here lately due to a heavy admin workload. But this discussion thread might be useful.https://twitter.com/JCSkewesDK/status/1106176910957182979 …

Not directly on prereg but in the same spirit and resonates with me. https://simplystatistics.org/2019/04/17/tukey-design-thinking-and-better-questions/ …

“It is important to understand what you CAN DO before you learn to measure how WELL you seem to have DONE it” I love this!

Also this: "Far better an approximate answer to the right question, which is often vague, than an exact answer to the wrong question, which can always be made precise." Gold.

Tukey is always right. Exactly what inspires me to take the less obvious route, rather than working on creating better estimators for the wrong problem.
