About five years ago I spent an entire weekend finally learning to see them. The joke above was worth it :)

It took me about 30 seconds, most of which were spent wondering if it was possible with text.

You have to unfocus your eyes and just wait. That's all I can say to describe the process of seeing it. Where were you in the 90s though? 😂

I think that's why computer screens or placing them behind glass helps - the reflective surface makes it easier to focus on something the distance (and therefore unfocused on the image itself).

Makes sense. I like unfocusing my eyes generally. Feels relaxing. And as you say, it's super easy to do if you are looking at something far away.

Olivia I’ve been focusing my eyes on that picture for 2 minutes now and nothing happens. I feel like this is some cruel prank half the world is in on and the rest of us just think they pop out but we can’t see it. #conspiracy

You have to UNfocus if you can. It's hard. Can't explain things any more sorry.

Yeah, if you can't, you can't. I believe you. It's just that it's also hard to explain.

I also can't really cross my eyes symmetrically by following my finger inwards. Have 20/20 binocular vision though and good stereo acuity in other scenarios

I am honestly 80% certain these have no 3D element to them and I have been tricked into staring at them but not quite a them but behind them even though they’re on 2D paper and crossing my eyes and slowly uncrossing and someone out there finds this hilariouspic.twitter.com/P9PQIyNlu9

I wonder if it’s a bit like rules of cricket though - I mean I am sure I’m cognitively capable of understanding them but weighing the effort against the payoff and I’ve had people try to explain this to me since the 90s and they’re still not 3D!
