Even in Greece/Cyprus people spell in different ways. Some retain the orthography and use h for η, i for ι, ei for ει, w for ω; others don’t care and only use i and o for example. Some use x for χ, others h etc

Yup. In Cyprus we use 3 and 4 for ξ and ψ, which I've never seen a mainlander do.

I believe that was more popular a while ago, it was very popular to do when I was in high school (along with 5 for σ/ς). Now I don’t see it that often (maybe it’s an age thing?)
