I also get a bit upset that people tell me "Spanish sounds so cool but Cypriot Greek, that's ugly-sounding"...

I have to say the rhythm of Greek is different to Spanish for sure but yes, they sound very similar when I'm not paying attention. I wonder what

To me though, Cypriot Greek sounds very different — we have very different consonants to Spanish and Greek.

When I’m not paying attention, I sometimes confuse Spanish and Greek as well. I get why people say they sound alike. But yea Cypriot Greek is very different in terms of sounds so I don’t think many people would take it for Spanish

I saw somebody spell it "Galamaraes" the other day and I'm going with it.

I’ve noticed a lot of cypriots abroad use g/b/d for κ/π/τ respectively when writing Greeklish unlike in Cyprus which are usually k/p/t. I guess for the diaspora kpt are aspirated (from English) so for example babous instead of pappous
idk it looks weird to me1 reply 0 retweets 2 likes -
Yes. It's because, in my opinion, they know the p in παππούς is not an English p. So they choose b. In Cyprus we would choose p because we don't mind and know to read it.

It's exactly what you said though aspirated p (English p) versus unaspirated p (Greek p, sounds like b to some people).

Like πού πας is it poo pass or boo bas? It's neither, that sound doesn't exist in English. So you have to choose.
