Sometimes I genuinely forget that I'm bilingual and that I can speak another language natively and I think about like French or something where you have to keep track of the gender of the nouns and I go "oh, wow, imagine" and then LOL I realise I can do that in Cypriot Greek.

I love the rhythm of Cypriot Greek

To me though, Cypriot Greek sounds very different — we have very different consonants to Spanish and Greek.

When I’m not paying attention, I sometimes confuse Spanish and Greek as well. I get why people say they sound alike. But yea Cypriot Greek is very different in terms of sounds so I don’t think many people would take it for Spanish

-
I saw somebody spell it "Galamaraes" the other day and I'm going with it.

-
That's Cypriot (weird spelling though, like an immigrant Cypriot would spell it) for Greek mainlanders.

-
Well we can be a bit ignorant when it comes to Cypriot Greek unfortunately. Me the only misunderstanding I had due to the lang differences was when a colleague asked if we should go out and “πιουμε ενα τσιγαρο” which means smoke a cigarette but in Greek means smoke a spliff

I have lots of stories like this

Annoying thing for me is when I go back to Greece people tell me I have a weird accent and ask me where I’m from
It’s a side effect from speaking English too much for 9 yrs apparently. -
Oh, wow, really!? That hasn't happened to me yet. As a child certain people were weird about my dad (British) and insisted I was a Charlie (British-born Cypriot) even tho I was born in Cyprus. My dad's been in Cyprus for 35 years now... He still says το πόρτα & απόευμα (wout γ).

Oh, I do sometimes say πάνιο and παλλούνι for bath and balloon. That's... Ehem... Very immigrant.

-
Just thinking about that and I'm laughing to myself.
