Yes definitely. But the question is whether the misunderstood minority should let the majority group help to set the terms for their own reform. The track record in this process has not been great (IMO) so far.
I didn't make the jump you think. I am claiming that saying "science needs something akin to a police force" is authoritarian. Inherently so IMHO.

Oh, we're still at the city metaphor. I thought that was settled. I just don't want us to go down the rabbit hole "if there are any social conventions that direct research = authoritarian", because that's a strawman.

It's also a strawman of me to say I said that.
I completely want a dialogue on social conventions and I think they can be a force for good as well as good science. -
I am literally the person (among many) who gets called a feminazi/SJW/crybaby or whatever for calling out some of the bad/new social conventions and for asking for a dialogue on improving our social conventions.
