I am American, and "aubergine" is a word used by pretentious elites. I only eat the humble yet ruggedly individualistic eggplant!
TBF USAmericans (and maybe Americans generally) do seem to think of Europeans as somehow inherently elite, so that makes sense.
Y'all commute to other countries on the train, speak 3+ languages, and have monarchs. Our country is young, insecure, and out of control.
I mean I would use this to mock English people now but so many UK people are bilingual (I don't even know what I am bi- or tri-) that it's become a joke of more limited value... only the most White British are monolingual.
:O I was today's years old when I learnt that distinction..! I think Northern Europeans generally don't discriminate between the two.. I can't tell you when was the first time I had eggplant but it was *late*
I mean I could be imagining things! A more ideal world...
Makes sense tho! :)
