Academic twitter: What seemingly "useless" hobby has provided you with unexpected, helpful skills for your work? I'll go first: Playing chat-based RPGs for half of my life has given me the ability to write convincing vignettes, especially those involving interviews/conversations.

Maybe because I grew up near Silicon Valley it was more obvious to me. True story: In my 5th grade year book I put I wanted to be a systems administrator when I grow up....
