Poor little brains, damn priors! (or are these heuristics?) 🤔https://twitter.com/CathrynTownsend/status/1103992891544879104 …

      Esther Mondragón added,

      Dr Cathryn Townsend @CathrynTownsend
‘To establish its priors, our brain will act like an eager ‘deep learning’ system. If the info it soaks up is biased in some way, perhaps based on prejudice & stereotypes, then it is not hard to see what the outcome might be.’ p. 118.

Heuristics. Otherwise we would actually see the outcome. Which Implicit Bias blabla can't show. What it actually shows is the bias in favor of bias-ideology, with billions spent in useless trainings.

I think you didn't detect my irony. But somehow you are proving it.

"Your irony" is too diffuse to respond in kind. So I comment as a matter of fact. In case you detected hostility, it wasn't directed at you, but some state of things and others.

Heuristics can be modelled as priors. So your point is moot. https://doi.org/10.1016/j.cogpsych.2017.11.006 …

What you pretend my point to be, sure. And not, the two aren't synonymous, they aren't perfectly coextensive.

Nobody in this thread claimed they are synonyms.

There is more to come on how these priors work. It seems that stereotypes are a very special type of prior used to navigate our social world & are processed differently in the brain from how categorization of non-social info works. Please keep following the thread for more.
