In the lab I was doing molecular biol. in a neurosci context. Moved to IT for neuroscience, ended up writing software for researchers (Systematic Reviews). I don't write cog. models, but I can see their usefulness and why just re-running someone else's code isn't the point, etc.

More to the point: seeying software from a different perspective, I know that Olivia is right. A model behaviour might be the result of oddities and/or assumptions you didn't make explicitly. So, re-writing it "from the specs" is clearly the main route to meaningful replication..
