I had decided not to respond to @ProfData's blog post in which he calls the twitter conversation around his & coauthors' preprint “rapey and authoritarian” because I think my twitter thread that he links to speaks for itself. (1/3)https://twitter.com/siminevazire/status/1083533474332430336 …

I have some thoughts about the recent debate about @KriegeskorteLab’s blog post and @ProfData’s response. [Thread]

FWIW I've been raped and saying just sit back relax and enjoy it without your consent is rapey. It doesn't matter that it's not sexual inherently. The lack of consent and saying just enjoy it is hella creepy. And given the greater context, let's just say it's nasty rhetoric.

      1) Simine assumes the blog is about her after her name was mentioned? I think that is a problem because it's creating a simplistic take of sides when it's actually individuals who don't agree with each other on many things so can't coherently be "2 sides".https://twitter.com/ProfData/status/1100108304158806017 …

That would be sensible, but the links @siminevazire provides do not correspond to the comments she highlights. They are unrelated. I wonder why that is? Answer below. http://bradlove.org/blog/fast-food-science …

          2) TW: rape, DV. I get that "rapey" is upsetting (it's inherently upsetting), but to me part of that happened — not with Simine — was rapey. What happened was doing something to people without consent and then insisting they should (learn to) enjoy it.

2 con.) TW: rape, DV. When I had therapy after I was diagnosed with PTSD from being abused (sexually inclusive), part of the therapy was understanding where/how people did/said things to me without my consent and how they/I expected I had to enjoy it.

2 cont.) Seeing "rapey" used here made me feel seen because, even though I had no input as to whether Brad used that word at all, I consider the idea that we have to endure awful stuff without consent (where others would get the ability to consent) and learn to like it as rapey.

          3) Finally, I agree with you @djnavarro that this is a huge issue and I think there are many overlapping issues here. BUT I hope that people can be better, we need to be better. We can't have people in open science who behave this way.
