We seriously considered leaving at one point. Hope we don't regret the decision to stay...

I cajoled Jon to leave London in 2005 d/t my 40th year existential crisis. We left a fab Brick lane centred life & great jobs, in a united, connected London post 7/7. Australia is now home. London is always missed. London how I remember it. Pre-

I seem to be in a minority here but I don't see Brexit as a singular event. And yes, this is where I moved to more than a decade ago, it's not changed. The people who voted brexit in 2016 where the eurosceptics that scared me when I loved here in 2006.

It hasn't even changed much, in that respect, since I left in 1972. The myths of Rule Britannia and Wartime Spirit, taught as history and reinforced everywhere, leave most white Brits living in a fantasy world.

I certainly wasn’t implying Rule Britannia. Rather a London very part of Europe. Dusting itself off after 7/7. I’m a South African raised, British heritage Australian citizen.A gay Dr who’s more aligned with Asia Pacific & her peoples than notions of mother country jingoism! Mx

I didn't think you were implying that and don't see how I implied that you did. To be more clear, I was referring to views adopted in British secondary school history syllabus and the majority of popular culture.

There is definitely a big national ego over here. In the Uk they think we are still seen as a super power - the rest of the world has moved on.

UK history is a series of very serious crimes and I don't care for the argument that says "other nations did bad things too" at all. They think, cos they are taught this, the crimes done under colonialism are something to be forgotten...
