I think I got off topic a bit with the science clique focus. I do think that's a real problem though. Some of this might be my bias to slow down and try to think things through, where the field seems addicted to the fast fix, and twitter discourse likely amplifies this tendency.

But at least in this case you have an immediate discussion, albeit a chaotic one. I am more worried about people thinking that something is big and new because it is in journal X

I learn a lot from those discussions. And they give the rebels a chance to get a word in even if the big journals don't.

Yes, that is the dominant culture that we must fight against in Twitter. A fast and extensive control aimed at prioritising credit and egos above collaboration and advancement. There is where real ignorance lies, IMHO
