Hey all!
I want to help us all do #openscience better. So please send me (DM/email me) examples in which you feel that our community could be better, whether it's 100% #bropenscience or just something that is a teachable moment.
Please RT and thanks.

It keeps coming up so much that people are disappointed that I would like to know what people are thinking and what examples they are using to come to these conclusions. I also hope to use them to ask us all to self-correct and help steer the movement to something better.

If you want to share something but are scared to (for whatever reason), I will not release your name and if you wish I will not even discuss your example publicly.

Also to be 100% clear, I refer to within-community issues not something from outside. So, e.g., a powerful person who doesn't do open science calling open science people bullies, that is not what I mean.

A good yet extreme example would be something from within open science, for example, openly (pun intended) allowing Neo-Nazis into their discussions (no pushback, no "eww, fuck off pedo apologists") and not caring that that sends a very specific message.

Another good yet extreme example is snitch-tagging infamous transphobes into a trans woman's twitter threads resulting in dog-piling and said woman having to leave twitter for a bit.

My intention is to allow us to have moments of reflection and learn from these. I also want to know what is going on and why so many people have come to me to say things are both getting better and worse. I have a lot of discussions that basically say "it's become polarised AF".

Anyway, I am/we are not omnipresent and so I/we cannot know of all examples, but crowd-sourcing them seems like a way forward. We need to be able to learn and self-correct as a community.
