So it looks like philosophy’s transphobia and general illiberalism — is coming to the fore — just like psychology’s a couple of week’s ago.
I'll run through the main issues/parallels for both instances of transphobia and using Twitter to (attempt to) dehumanise/ruin people.

Firstly,
@christapeterso (a PhD student) is being seriously harassed by a senior philosopher. He is literally trying to get her supervisor to make her delete her Twitter account (and got past form it seems doing this to others):https://twitter.com/christapeterso/status/1089706823072899072 …Olivia Guest | Ολίβια Γκεστ added,
Philosophys Possibly Most Incompetent Grad Student @christapetersoLeiter's decided to post his attempt to get my advisor to make me delete my account or make it private after I criticized one of his bad posts which isn't what I would do if I wanted everyone to think I was a big Free Academic Discourse guy but what do I know pic.twitter.com/L8rq8eRE6qShow this thread1 reply 1 retweet 14 likesShow this thread -

And this is because he can't stand that she dislikes the current state of TERFs and generally transphobes being able to openly be transphobic, constantly, pretty much. She called him and her field generally out:https://twitter.com/christapeterso/status/997220012501778433 …
Olivia Guest | Ολίβια Γκεστ added,
Philosophys Possibly Most Incompetent Grad Student @christapetersoDoes this seem like a good post idea: two cisgender men's Reflections on whether transgender women are women, curated by a third cisgender man I'd have thought no but Brian Leiter does have more than a dozen years of experience writing the world's most popular philosophy blog pic.twitter.com/GUEHdnbBrJShow this thread2 replies 1 retweet 14 likesShow this thread -
[INB4: But her tone. Anger when calling people out is natural. Of course we are angry people are being transphobic. Injustice makes one angry. Do not mention her tone — it's not relevant. Nobody's tone here is the problem.]pic.twitter.com/QWloaUczQl

Similar things happened just a few weeks ago in psychology. Some people noticed that some others also in the psychology
#openscience community have cozied up to an infamous transphobe.1 reply 0 retweets 8 likesShow this thread -

All people involved are pro-open science. This is a classic attempt at self-correction/-reflection in a community. And yes, Christa was one of those who noticed back then too:https://mobile.twitter.com/christapeterso/status/1085955334517055488 …
Olivia Guest | Ολίβια Γκεστ added,
Philosophys Possibly Most Incompetent Grad Student @christapetersoAll these psychology professors over here like “I’ve read Jesse Singal’s work and everything he said seemed fair and inoffensive (don’t know about the issues tho)” as though they’re unfamiliar with the risk of serious bias being tucked into presuppositions

A disappointing thing happened... Instead of taking the criticism and learning from it, thinking about it, reflecting on it at length, some people instead doubled down. Perhaps most upsettingly a trans woman in psychology literally left Twitter (at least for now) because of it.

And all because of a thread basically drawing attention to something that is painfully obvious if you care about trans people. What does that say about us, about
#openscience in psych? I want our movement and field to be better.https://mobile.twitter.com/jinxgoh/status/1085234366370873344 …Olivia Guest | Ολίβια Γκεστ added,
Jin X. Goh | 吴晋勋 @jinxgohWhy does (psych) open science keep supporting Jesse Singal despite his constant attack on the trans community? There are other great writers like Ed Yong and Stephanie Lee. I've debated asking this. I'm still unsure if I should have but maybe this speaks more about our community. https://twitter.com/djnavarro/status/1085001656444407808 …Show this thread1 reply 3 retweets 10 likesShow this thread -
I hope lessons can be learned here, mainly that:
snitch-tagging is bullying
sending letters to supervisors to get their students off Twitter is pathetic and harassment (happened in psych in the past too, not a unique thing)
transphobia = bad, any chance to reduce it = good1 reply 4 retweets 22 likesShow this thread
Also for the UK (please feel free to link to other good ones for other jurisdictions/countries), this is a textbook case of harassment under the law:https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/law-and-courts/discrimination/what-are-the-different-types-of-discrimination/harassment/ …

"If you’re treated badly or less favourably because of your reaction to harassment which is related to sex or gender reassignment, you may have a claim under the Equality Act. The Act says this is also harassment. You’re protected[.]"

IANAL of course, but writing letters to your employer to get your kicked off of social media, for example, is absolutely out of control and a case can probably be brought.
