This comment embodies the sci-reform issue that scares many of us. There shouldn't be a battle to "require" pre-reg for everyone. That question should not seriously exist in anyone's mind for a millisecond. That it is taken as a serious question by some is why we push back here.>https://twitter.com/economeager/status/1087421337856102406 …

ok look i dont know what things are like in your field but in my field nobody can stop anyone doing pre-reg so the idea that some powerful guy would "let me" do pre-reg is meaningless, our battle is over whether to require it for everyone and if so how

      > If people are seriously having this debate, then there is a chance that it will become a reality, and in the same way that behaviorism rolled over the idea of "mind" in the early 1900's, this reform too would come with high costs that hurt some of us more than others.

I'll add of course that I think pre-reg is awesome. I've just published a paper that used pre-reg extensively and it was helpful. I'm not anti pre-reg, I'm anti mandatory pre-reg, which is, alarmingly, an idea that some take seriously (some openly, more, I suspect, in confidence)

Sorry for being out of the loop - who seriously suggested it being mandatory?

It's come up in several conversations over the past year, including the one I quoted at the start of this thread.

Hm, maybe I read that one differently. But yeah, obviously bad idea (also not one I've ever seen proposed, hence the question).
