Tonight’s idling thought: I know that blue LEDs affect your sleep, and I know there are lots of flashing blue lights from emergency vehicles on the streets of Stevenage every night. I wonder if their light has a similar effect? (And is perhaps also the source of my headaches?)

However, blue light does cause migraine. So it's possible to get a headache.

Oh, neat, thanks for the info! The emergency vehicles here in Cambridge (UK) don't seem to use the high intensity rapid flashing strobes I've seen in the States, but it's good to know those are probably okay too.

Yeah, I worked in a lab that had researchers on migraine and epilepsy (related in the brain on a low level — and I have migraine myself). The biggest commonly-found culprits tend to be (older?) fairy/Xmas lights.

I remain grateful to this day that, although my migraines can be triggered by strong light, I don't get photophobia, only phonophobia. My eyes do have issues with the new "purple" LEDs that are in reality red plus blue but that's just weird autonomic nervous system stuff afaict.
