Great line in Richard Morey's piece: "A bad scientist illicitly mines “truth” from their data; a good scientist mines doubt."https://twitter.com/Psychonomic_Soc/status/1085449477094297601 …

Replying to @dstephenlindsay
Really appreciated
@richarddmorey's post but actually disliked the use of terms 'good' vs 'bad scientist'. I think that terminology is especially unhelpful in this context because reformers tend to point fingers but not always willing to reflect on limits of their own practices.2 replies 2 retweets 7 likes -
To clarify: What I mean is that I think a "you are a good scientist if you think of the search for truth as I do, and a bad scientist otherwise" is unhelpful, because it makes different views on how to best search for truth personal (cf. ad hominem).

Personally, I think widespread tendency to focus (or build) on "truth" of "individual results" is mistaken & a distractor for the field. I think we need to zoom out more. But this is a judgment on what I think is good for our science, not a judgement on individual scientists.

This is a super simplistic description of science that tends towards confusing people. Truth isn't a scientific concept anyway... https://twitter.com/dstephenlindsay/status/1085455647200690176 …
