- sends nice emails to all of us - sends vaguely threatening and very aggressive emails to the ECR student - only contribution appears to be access to the data, as part of the practicum the student completed. What is a good move here? I want to punt kick them.pic.twitter.com/pJqCdDWFS7

What are the authorship norms in your department/field?

Good question - obviously, the paper couldn't have happened without access to the data. However, I am unsure that this compels authorship - and I am especially concerned about the bullying of an ECR behind the scenes.

It might be worth referring that person to APA authorship guidelines too. If I remember correctly, authors should have directly worked on the paper/project or significantly contributed to the idea for the project. I don’t think providing data with minor comments is justified.

Thanks! That’s what I have in my email so far. Going to make sure it still sounds professional tomorrow morning though.

I feel like there are two separate issues, one is the authorship (which I think the other replies deal with well) the other is the clear-cut (from what you say) bullying.

This ("sends vaguely threatening and very aggressive emails to the ECR student") to me is a sign of deeper issues. I hope the person on the receiving end of this BS is OK and doesn't have to endure any more shit.

Is there a way to stop this for the future?

original tweets were as polite as possible - the emails only sent to the student were at best rude, at worst power play-bullying. I sent a strongly worded email about how these things were unacceptable and here’s an authorship agreement if you wish to continue.

Thankfully the APA has a nice one we can use if they continue to demand authorship along with some rules on how to determine authorship.
