How does an adult woman without kids make friends in a small American town she happens to live in while all her local peers are bonding over play dates? Asking for a friend. I mean I would if I had one 😬

Meetup groups? Cooking classes? Cultural events? Political groups? Like whatever your interests are, trying to go to organized events and striking up conversation. Then you have to keep going or follow up with an invitation to hang out separately.

You could also try talking to strangers out and about who seem like they dont have kids lol.

I should have added that being an introvert makes it almost impossible. I should be more proactive to seek out these opportunities but then again it’s so outside of my comfort zone. Something has gotta give though :/

In my experience, friendship takes time -- so you have to find something to do that involves actually spending time with other people, like working on a political campaign or volunteering somewhere.

Another idea.... if you like to read fiction, you could ask some people you would like to get to know if they would like to start a reading group. You could meet up once a month in a cafe in the evening and talk about a book. Time and shared interests get things rolling.

These are great ideas, thank you! Definitely need to find a way to spend time with new people.

I have practically no offline friends. So I basically have the same problem. I am trying to address it by going to https://www.meetup.com/PyLadiesLondon/  and similar events. I have had genuine connections in the past.

Oh this is nice! I actually should find something like this myself.

Thenpossibility of invisible (online) friends really opened things up for me. I’m a shy introvert. Most of my friends are online or colleagues. If I didn’t have a family I would be lonely. #BadAtFriendship

Absolutely! Online friendships are indeed a life saver. Life is hard for us introverts!
