I think when the narrative is run by those who are never "*actually* [...] forced into silence" they literally cannot imagine what it's like. Privilege.

But why, if this has been pointed out repeatedly, is there no 💡 that ones perspective is too incomplete to accurately grasp what ppl are going on about & then to start listening & reflecting. Why are some able to make that switch while others unable to? Also sincerely asking.

Thanks. Social psychologists should be in a privileged position to know about this phenomenon given it was first published in their flagship journal.

I think the honest answer is that they don't care. Privilege + don't care.

Although, I have to point out that unlike you (I think!) I am not an optimist. I think they genuinely don't care. Have you heard of FYIGM? "Fuck you, I got mine"? https://www.reddit.com/r/AskReddit/comments/6erbci/serious_whats_the_worst_example_of_fuck_you_i_got/ …

It always, IMHO, boils down to this. Because sadly, given it's been attempted to be explained to them, and they still persist it's not a problem... you just can't maintain the belief that they just are not getting it. They very much do get it, they just don't give a shit.

They may be understanding what is explained, but fail to understand the problem. I see this happening toward my Asperger’s. I explain the trouble it may bring, but they shrug and say ‘just practice and you’ll overcome this’.

The difference being that your perspective is that people are more in control of their actions and responsible as such. I don’t think people generally are that intelligent.

We completely agree. I don't think so either. But we're talking about scientists who do indeed get it.

The context here is scientists who are for sure "clever enough" whatever that means because I see them get it and even use it to their advantage. But they then purposefully pull the ladder up behind them.

I would never say "people are not that intelligent" but the general spirit behind your comment, I still agree with. Never attribute to malice, etc. But with evidence and I'm this subsample of people, we can easily attribute purposeful behaviour.
