Short answer is of course "politics".

Although, I have to point out that unlike you (I think!) I am not an optimist. I think they genuinely don't care. Have you heard of FYIGM? "Fuck you, I got mine"? https://www.reddit.com/r/AskReddit/comments/6erbci/serious_whats_the_worst_example_of_fuck_you_i_got/ …

That's not as good a thread as I assumed/hoped. But you get the gist.

It always, IMHO, boils down to this. Because sadly, given it's been attempted to be explained to them, and they still persist it's not a problem... you just can't maintain the belief that they just are not getting it. They very much do get it, they just don't give a shit.
-
They may be understanding what is explained, but fail to understand the problem. I see this happening toward my Asperger’s. I explain the trouble it may bring, but they shrug and say ‘just practice and you’ll overcome this’.
-
I think that amounts to the same thing. They just don't care enough to understand.
-
I'm aspie too BTW.
-
The difference being that your perspective is that people are more in control of their actions and responsible as such. I don’t think people generally are that intelligent.
-
We completely agree. I don't think so either. But we're talking about scientists who do indeed get it.

Exactly... They don’t have to care.
-
But also... If they ‘succumb’ to caring, it might be more than they are capable of... Their bubble is safest.

that ones perspective is too incomplete to accurately grasp what ppl are going on about & then to start listening & reflecting. Why are some able to make that switch while others unable to? Also sincerely asking.
