I recommend doing this: https://www.proporti.onl/ . It was unsettling to discover that I follow 60% men, and 60% of my followers are men. Binomial test p < 0.0001. I am going to follow women until this is fixed!https://twitter.com/M_Kosilo/status/1070001543552876545 …

Check the gender balance of people you follow and people who follow you. I should make conscious effort to follow more women! Tool by @jessejiryudavis, found via @esdalmaijer https://www.proporti.onl/  I follow mostly academics so results are interesting #WomenInSTEM #genderequity pic.twitter.com/UONNn124PO

I used the results about 2 years ago to try and improve my scores. It's doable but hard and I'm still working on it. I think it's more shocking how it's hinting the baseline "twitter person" that I interact with is a man (at least according to this algo?), I guess?pic.twitter.com/9Rocls5o4j

It's a great little website. I've managed by basically questioning why I would follow back a man, but nearly always following back women. Policy seems to have worked (percentage-wise), and it's definitely diversified the viewpoints I see.pic.twitter.com/RzX9XMswiw

My approach as well, and I think I'm now close to following 60% women. I believe it classifies organizations as enby's, and I follow lots of those too, like @uOttawaBMRI @FiveThirtyEight @OttawaOCISO

Just because of the proportion of each when I run the test on mine, where I seem to have lots of NB. They definitely should be listed a unknown.

I think the algorithm is open source, so you should be able to check what's going on given what you already know.

Thanks for that! I recall having read that back when this came out. So yeah, I'm not sure that organisations would be classed as non-binary based on that blogpost more than anything else?
