I guess there's just more of us. Perhaps I'm seeing a more representative sample.

The format of twitter seems almost designed to do exactly that. It’s why I do my best to avoid talking about politics on here.
-
I wasn't referring to Political stuff, but sure maybe you mean political stuff?
-
I mean, people tend to really /hate/ based on politics whereas, for example, vi vs emacs is at least partially in jest.
-
100% agreed.
-
This is what have to happen algorithms of twitter, Fb... Don't favor politics in gruping and "cuting" communities they polarise everything that has matured and have larger amount of elements to cut into subdomines it's easy to model and prevent :/
-
I've noticed twitter people very clearly self organising too. Somebody will unfollow me and their friends will too, etc.
-
That's a snowball effect and now when we are cut because of obvious reasons like politics it's getting deeper. Sad that they do that to improve revenue from ads and this is only a by product that could be changed :/

Be the person you want to see online. Gentle. Congratulatory. Promoting others.
-
But I want to see annoying Cypriot women online...

Other media, like newspapers and radio seem to be reporting more polarization in the general population, with a rise in hate-crimes to go with it.
-
It's so strange though how I am noticing this shift within my small Twitter interactions in my field. Wow.

It feels like folks are struggling to come to terms with just how terrible people sorta generally are as more and more terrible people come to light, but that's a gross oversimplification even if it's what's happening, of course.

Being nice seems to be regarded as a weakness and competition a prerequisite of life...
